Early Maps of Pillgwenlly 1.

The early street maps of Pillgwenlly were a most popular aspect of the Pill heritage Centre. This selection which were very kindly given by the Newport Museum and Library show Pill around the turn of the Century.

Two of the most famous of Pill Pubs were to be found at either end of the long highway, linking Cardiff Road and the Docks. The Waterloo, which is now a first class Hotel and Restaurant, and shown left, the Salutation Inn. The older of the two when pulled down in 1963.Originally Dock Road, this is now Commercial Road. The Newport central Police Station now occupies this site.
