Quiet Womans Row

Pill Heritage Centre

.The Pill Heritage Centre was closed nearly five years ago. In the hands of property developers it became an impossible task trying to meet their demands for a commercial rent. Since closure it has remained empty, has experienced fire, flood, squatters and untold vandalism. Nevertheless it carries many, very happy memories and experiences during the 10 years or more that the Heritage Project was active in that style. It helped numerous organisations, working with Schools and students, the elderly, those with mental health difficulties , work experience, probation services, artists and musicians from all walks of life. Its popular restaurant, street experience and the Time Tunnel gave much pleasure to those who love Pill and Newport, whilst its themed rooms and displays were frequently used by those who benefitted from reminiscence therapy.
Here are a selection of images from that happy time, including the model railway, the Street and the Time Tunnel. Also included are some of the many visitors who’s company we enjoyed.

Above left, The Street just after opening, right, Dickensian Figures added a spooky dimension to the arches. A welcome addition to the Heritage Centre Ghost who frequently walked across the stage in the hall and in the street itself. Bottom image is the cafe/restaurant known for it's Welsh Breakfast of Laver Bread Smokey Bacon Mushrooms , Egg and Tomatoes.
The Heritage Centre has now been empty for 5 years. Well well.
