Oldest Street in Pill Speedwell Street

The Speedwell was the name of a ship, possibly one or more have carried the name throughout history. It is a name which suggests safe passage upon the seas and is perhaps fitting that Pill's Oldest Street was named Speedwell Street. Yet Speedwell Street was unique for most of it remained hidden to the public eye for almost a hundred years. In the late 1800s Uskside Engineering and Foundry of Church Street, desperately needed to expand. but In their way stood Speedwell Street. Representation was made to the council of the day who sold the street in its entirety to the company. Half of it was demolished but the remainder stood in the grounds of the firm untouched until these pictures were taken in 2004. I believe that it has now ben demolished but was inded Pill's Oldest Street.
